On Saturday, July 13, 2024, tragedy struck our nation once again. Innocent people were injured and killed by a reckless gunman. In Saturday’s incident, the setting was a peaceful rally filled with families enjoying their weekend, taking part in the American political scene, which has been part of our nation’s history for hundreds of years. Sadly, this rally ended in gunfire with several people injured and one deceased; one of the injured being our nation’s president for four years, and the deceased being an outstanding citizen of Pennsylvania, Chief Corey Comperatore, who had served for over twenty years. David Dutch of New Kensington, Pennsylvania, James Copenhaver of Moon Township, Pennsylvania, and Texas Representative Jackson’s relative were among the injured victims along with the president. Mr. Dutch and Copenhaver are reported as being hospitalized and in stable condition as of Sunday. Our prayers should continue for all of those who were affected by this tragedy, and our condolences go out to Chief Comperatore’s family and to the fire department in which he served. Corey Comperatore was a former Fire Chief for the BUFFALO TOWNSHIP, PA. Fire Department. Chief Comperatore lived his last moments shielding his family from the gunfire during the assassination attempt on our former president. Chief Comperatore died Saturday from his injuries sustained during the assassination attempt in Butler, PA. The Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Company president, Randy Reamer, expressed what many people thought of Chief Comperatore. As Mr. Reamer stated, Chief Comperatore was “a stand-up guy” and “a true brother of the fire service.” “He was just a great all-around guy, always willing to help someone out.” “He definitely stood up for what he believed in and never backed down to anyone.” Assistant Chief, Ricky Heasley remembered Chief Comperatore as very outgoing and full of life. Chief Comperatore served as the Fire Chief and was a life member having served for more than 20 years. As a life-long member of the fire service, a Fire Chief, and as a citizen, I am saddened over the event as should everyone despite any personal or political opinions. The senseless tragedy has left Chief Comperatore’s wife a widow, and his children, fatherless. Truly senseless and despicable! In closing everyone, pray for this country. Pray for the families of Chief Comperatore as well as the injured victims and their families. Our fire department shall fly our flags at half-mast through Wednesday in memoriam of Chief Comperatore.
